Torrevieja - "Salt-white and sun-tanned"

In 1488, the city of Orihuela ceded the Salinas de La Mata to the Catholic Monarchs, who were looking for resources for the conquest of Granada. And it was in 1766 when the State administration began to take over the exploitation of the salt mines of Torrevieja and La Mata for the production of salt.
From 1869, the system of exploitation by lease was introduced with contractual modalities that have varied and been transferred to the present day.
This part of Las Salinas de Torrevieja is home to many species of birds, including flamingos, which come to the park to feed.
This is landscape that combines the beauty of the pink hue of its lagoons with the imposing and enormous pyramids of salt that reach several meters in height.
